Have you seen the news yet? The Basic Dress & Blouse pattern is now available across 8 sizes and for free download! If you would like a hard copy, those are still available at the regular price.
I decided to make a little sew-along/how-to video making the dress version with ruffle sleeve hems, pockets, and ribbed neck. You can watch it below:
I decided to make this pattern free as I feel like it’s a good one for beginners, you can start with a really basic shape in a top or a dress and practice new techniques like ruffles, pockets, and applying ribbing. The pattern comes with two sleeve lengths and two body lengths.
This pattern is one of my favourite easy makes, and perfect for summer. I often throw it on in summer for an easy look, I usually make it up in rayon (as shown in the video) for a soft flowy shape. Scroll down to see pictures of this make – fabric from Darn Cheap Fabrics.
If rayon isn’t your thing, or you are confident enough to sew it this pattern can be made up in any soft fabric, I’ve even made it up in a cotton lawn, pictured below – Fabric from Maai Design.
The idea of this pattern is that you can easily adapt and change it, whether that be with the pieces provided (ruffles, pockets, different lengths, and necklines) or as it is such a simple shape it’s great to add trims and details too. I made up a shirt a while ago with lace details along the front and sleeve. I also placed lace along the neckline to emphasize the wide neck. Fabrics and trims arealso from Darn Cheap Fabrics.
I hope you enjoy this pattern and get as much use out of it as I do! If you make it up please tag us on Instagram @vandenbergfashion or use the hashtag #VDBbasic
If you do enjoy the pattern and would like to send a little something my way, I’ve set up a Ko-Fi to keep me creating.
